چکیده

Data sharing in a large scale and for high volatility tolerance requires peer-to-peer solutions where traditional multiprocessor shared memory systems are not applicable. Efficiency of those P2P shared memory systems depends, in particular, on scale, dynamics, and concurrent write accesses. We have developed a P2P shared memory solution, DAEDALUS, based on SUN’s JXTA framework, and integrated an efficient stochastic locking protocol, proper resource clustering, and semi-hierarchical grouping of nodes. We evaluated the applicability under heavy load, scale, and node mobility. Here, DAEDALUS outperformed a client/server system and solved its inherent scalability problem.

Modeling and Evaluating Peer-to-Peer Storage Architectures

Peer-to-peer storage architecture aims to aggregating the storage of individual computers (peers) to form a universal shared storage space, in which all peers undertake identical roles. The fully distributed nature of such architecture makes it possible to support features such as scalability at a global scale, self-configuration and dynamic adaptation, permanency, fault tolerance, and anonymit...

A Distributed Market Framework for Large-Scale Resource Sharing

Current distributed computing infrastructures, such as peerto-peer networks, grids, and more recently clouds, make sharing and trading resources ubiquitous. In these large distributed systems, rational users are both providers and consumers of resources. Currently, there is growing interest in exploiting economic models for the allocation of shared computing resources that incentivize rational ...

Towards a Theory of Peer-to-Peer Computability

A peer-to-peer system is a distributed system with no physical or logical central authority. We give a formal model of a peer-to-peer system where agents communicate through read-modify-write registers that can be accessed by exactly two agents. For this model, we study so-called ordering decision tasks for wait-free agents. We show how agents can determine their position in a total linearizabl...

DOLCLAN - Middleware Support for Peer-to-Peer Distributed Shared Objects

Contemporary object-oriented programming seeks to enable distributed computing by accessing remote objects using blocking remote procedure calls. This technique, however, suffers from several drawbacks because it relies on the assumption of stable network connections and synchronous method invocations. In this paper we present an approach to support distributed programming, which rely on local ...

An InfoSpace Paradigm for Local and ad hoc Peer-to-Peer Communication

A key feature of ubiquitous handheld devices will be their simple usability in mobile and highly dynamic ad-hoc peer-to-peer environments. With LINDA, JAVASPACES and TSPACES, shared memory-based communication concepts have been realized on the system level with corresponding APIs. This article proposes to consequently use the same simple communication paradigm also on the user interface level. ...
